Women's Writes

Well-behaved women seldom make history.
— Laurel Thatcher Ulrich

Day 18

As we move through the downward slide of Women’s History Month, the leaders of some portions of the world are declaring their hatred for women in so many ways. I give you a poem about it.

BLANK PAPER, FULL MIND

The paper is blank.
My mind is full.
My mind is full of news
Like the US wanting to weaken
Women’s rights
At the United Nations Conference.

The paper is blank.
My mind is full.
My mind is full of news
That the United States is
In solidarity with Saudi Arabia
Where women are concerned.

The paper is blank.
My mind is full.
My mind is full of worries
About the future women
That will need to navigate
In a world where women are not welcome

The paper is blank.
My mind is full.
My mind is full of memories
Of times when it was better,
Because at least we had hope
That things were moving forward.

The paper is full.
My mind is blank.
The paper is full of worries
That spilled out of my mind
And cannot be controlled
Because the world has run amok.
