Women's Writes

Well-behaved women seldom make history.
— Laurel Thatcher Ulrich

Day 26

Maybe today, a poem. Maybe today I’ve been thinking about a lot of things that have been happening to me lately…and a lot of things that have happened to other women I know. Maybe today, I can ask questions that will actually have answers. Or maybe not.

WHAT IS WRONG

What is wrong with the world
That makes a woman worth less than a man?
What is wrong with the world
Where one sex can work as hard as the other
And get paid less?
What is wrong with the world
That thinks childbearing is a miracle
When we all know most women can do it,
And many children are unwanted anyway.
What is wrong with the world
That thinks it is more important for a woman
To stay at home all day cleaning
While everyone else goes out into the world?
What is wrong with the world
That says I can work as hard as you,
Study as hard as you,
Dream as hard as you,
And because you are a man,
you still get to explain to me
What it means to be a woman?
What it means to be a man?
What it means to be a person?
