Women's Writes

Well-behaved women seldom make history.
— Laurel Thatcher Ulrich

Day 12

I didn’t know what to write about tonight.. There are a lot of things on my mind, a number of which I want to say, but I couldn’t figure out which one to write about first, or what genre to use. So i decided to talk about how tiresome it is to talk about (in this case, write about), the same old thing all the time.

STOP TALKING

 You say you are tired
Of hearing me rattle on
About women.
Can’t I ever talk about something else?
You know what?
I’m tired of it, too.
It seems we agree on something.
So I’ll make a deal.
If you will:
Reduce violence against women.
End rape culture.
Break the glass ceiling.
Close the pay gap.
End honor killings.
Stop saying ‘boys will be boys’.
Remove the stigma on menstruation.
Also on menopause.
Quit demonizing older women.
Stop purity rituals.
Allow women their full reproductive freedom,
The right to dress as they like,
The right to be educated without being kidnapped,
The right to wear their hair as they like
Without getting a faceful of acid,
The right to say no and have it respected…
When you do this
Then I will
Talk about something else.
It seems like a fair deal to me.
